President Donald Trump announced on Oct. 9 that Katie Zacharia will replace Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary (via The Daily Beast). Trump revealed his pick on Truth Social, calling her “a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning.” Zacharia thanked Trump in a social media post and called the appointment the “honor of a lifetime.”
Zacharia currently serves as senior communications adviser to Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates Truth Social. She previously worked as a spokesperson for former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem before leaving the department in March. She has also appeared as a commentator on Fox News and Newsmax.
Trump praised her educational background, noting she graduated from Pepperdine University and the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law. He also highlighted her campaign work, stating she assisted in key swing states. Her appointment comes as the administration has taken steps to restrict media access to the White House.
Before joining government, Zacharia wrote an op-ed accusing her kickboxing gym of siding with “liberal bullies” over her MAGA hat. CNN media analyst Brian Stelter noted her extensive record of defending Trump on conservative television. The attached Daily Beast article also reported that her attempts to scrub old social media posts drew additional scrutiny.
Leavitt announced her departure on Aug. 12 and left the position on Aug. 27. She said she stepped down to spend more time with her young children. Fox News announced it hired Leavitt as an on-air contributor starting Nov. 1. Before joining the White House, Leavitt served as national press secretary for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
