The Social Reckoning is heading to theaters, but its home-release plans remain unclear. Aaron Sorkin’s latest film arrives in cinemas on October 9, giving audiences their first chance to see his return to the world of Facebook. Sony Pictures has not yet confirmed when the movie will become available digitally or on a subscription streaming service.
The Social Reckoning could arrive on digital in November
The Social Reckoning’s digital release could come within a month of its October 9 theatrical debut. That would point to an early November arrival for viewers looking to rent or purchase the movie at home.
However, the timing is not confirmed. A late-November digital release remains possible, while the movie could also become available on digital platforms before the end of 2026. Sony has not announced a specific date or confirmed a release window.
Sorkin wrote and directed The Social Reckoning, which serves as a companion to The Social Network rather than a direct sequel. Mikey Madison stars as Frances Haugen, the former Facebook employee who exposed internal company documents. Jeremy Allen White portrays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, while Jeremy Strong plays Mark Zuckerberg.
The Social Reckoning streaming release could follow in January 2027
Subscription viewers may have to wait longer after the theatrical and digital releases. Based on an expected gap of roughly three months after the cinema opening, The Social Reckoning could reach streaming around early January 2027.
Netflix appears to be the likeliest destination based on Sony’s existing arrangements. The streamer has first-pick subscription rights to Sony’s theatrical releases in the United States, while a worldwide agreement signed in January 2026 expands that relationship.
Under the agreement, Sony movies move to Netflix after completing their theatrical and home-entertainment windows. That release order means The Social Reckoning would be expected to become available for digital rental or purchase before its subscription streaming debut.
The timing may differ for audiences outside the United States. Netflix is introducing the Sony arrangement on a territory-by-territory basis and expects full global availability under the deal in early 2029.
For now, neither Sony nor Netflix has announced a specific streaming date or confirmed where The Social Reckoning will stream. The digital release is therefore likely to arrive first, with a potential subscription debut following later.
