Chris Hemsworth To Join Michael Bay’s Transformers 8 in a Role He Has Already Played Before – Report

Chris Hemsworth may be returning to a role fans never expected to see in live action. A new report suggests the actor could reprise his Transformers One character in Michael Bay’s upcoming eighth installment of the franchise.

Chris Hemsworth could bring his Transformers One role to live action

Chris Hemsworth voiced Orion Pax, the younger version of Optimus Prime, in the 2024 animated film Transformers One. The actor could now potentially bring that role into live action. Beyond Reporter on X reported that Hemsworth will play Optimus Prime in Michael Bay’s upcoming Transformers movie.

The claim follows the passing of legendary voice actor Peter Cullen, who died on August 26 at age 85. Cullen had defined the iconic Autobot leader’s voice across multiple Transformers projects for decades. His death left a major vacancy in the franchise heading into its eighth live-action installment.

However, neither Paramount nor any involved studio has officially confirmed the report. In fact, Beyond Reporter’s own bio on X states plainly that they are “not an insider/scooper” but rather “just a messenger.” Additionally, some users have also traced the original claim back to a parody account.

Meanwhile, in Transformers One, filmmakers specifically chose Hemsworth to voice the pre-Optimus version of the character. They wanted a younger-sounding performance that captured Orion Pax’s naivety, spontaneity, and youthful energy. Notably, the Australian actor, 43, earned broadly positive reception from audiences for his portrayal.

Meanwhile, Bay will return to the Transformers franchise after stepping away following 2017’s The Last Knight. His involvement has already drawn significant attention to the project’s creative direction. Still, the question of who will succeed Cullen as Optimus Prime remains one of the production’s biggest uncertainties.

Ultimately, if the casting report proves accurate, Hemsworth would become the first actor to portray the character in both animated and live-action formats.
