Prince William and Prince Harry once had the potential to become a formidable team, despite their very different personalities. The brothers have since taken very different paths, and their relationship has become strained over the years. Former aide Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton saw their differences firsthand and believes they could have made the brothers a “very powerful” partnership.
Former aide says Prince William and Prince Harry made a powerful team before rift
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a former private secretary to Prince William and Prince Harry, discussed their personalities on Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast. “I thought they both had great talents in very different ways,” Lowther-Pinkerton said. Lowther-Pinkerton described William as more considered and Harry as more instinctive, pointing to their different approaches as helicopter pilots.
Harry flew attack helicopters, while William served as a search-and-rescue pilot. “Harry would be clipping the trees at 130 knots or whatever it was, with 35 things to do in an attack helicopter,” he said. William, meanwhile, had a role that demanded careful planning and precision.
Lowther-Pinkerton explained that the future king would fly into difficult conditions while managing the practical demands of rescue missions. “You know, Prince William was in a great big yellow helicopter, and he had to go out into the storm, literally for 300 miles in a straight line, make sure fuel loads were precise,” he said.
Lowther-Pinkerton’s comparison offered a glimpse into how differently the brothers approached their responsibilities. Rather than describing one as stronger than the other, he emphasized that they brought different abilities to the table. He also suggested that those differences could have complemented each other.
The former aide later compared William and Harry to historical royal brothers, highlighting their potential influence and contrasting roles. Lowther-Pinkerton’s comments show how differently their relationship could have turned out. Despite the ongoing feud, there is still hope that a significant milestone could bring Prince Harry and Prince William closer.
