47 Meters Down 3 Finally Gets an Update, MPA Rating Reveals ‘Bloody Images’

The third 47 Meters Down movie has finally come into the spotlight after months of silence. The long-awaited survival horror film got its official MPA rating, along with short notes on its gory imagery.

The Motion Picture Association has revealed its latest rating issues on Wednesday. 47 Meters Down: The Wreck is rated PG-13 for “violent content/bloody images, peril, some strong language and smoking.” The first two installments, which debuted in 2017 and 2019, carried the same rating.

The film made headlines in 2024, but there have been a few substantial updates since then. The rating update indicates that post-production is making steady progress toward a theatrical release.

Here’s what we know about 47 Meters Down: The Wreck

47 Meters Down: The Wreck follows a father and daughter who explore a famous shipwreck during a scuba dive. However, their trip takes a dangerous turn after an accident leaves them stranded inside the wreck with low oxygen. They must survive the threat of great white sharks while finding a way out.

The plot also gives significant attention to the father-daughter relationship. The father is trying to rebuild his relationship with his estranged daughter, only to find them both stranded in the deep sea, battling sharks with limited resources.

The film’s cast, per IMDB, includes Ron Livingston, Bo Bragason, Sadie Stanley, Gary Beadle, Alexandra Bartlett, and Pierre Bergman.

FilmNation announced the film in 2024, and Patrick Lussier, who directed Play Dead and Aftermath, was attached to direct. Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera, who co-wrote the previous films, have returned for the third installment. The former also serves as a producer alongside James Harris and Mark Lane.

In February 2025, Roberts announced that principal photography had begun. He later confirmed the first cut of the movie had been completed.

In an interview with DreadCentral, Roberts said the film would be out “sometime this year [2026]” and would be released by Lionsgate. In the same interview, the writer confirmed their plans for a fourth installment.
