Kaya Scodelario has opened up about the complicated relationship between Susie and Eddie in The Gentlemen. While the two characters have developed a strong understanding of each other, their differences limit how much they can rely on one another. Scodelario has now explained what keeps that trust from becoming complete.
Kaya Scodelario says Susie can see Eddie’s moves before he can
Kaya Scodelario has revealed that Susie understands Eddie well enough to anticipate his actions before he recognizes them himself. The actress said Susie notices details about Eddie that he does not realize, allowing her to predict what he may do next. “I think, Susie’s very observant of Eddie in the ways that he doesn’t realize. I think maybe she can see his steps before he can,” Scodelario said in a recent interview.
The actress said this dynamic exists because Susie and Eddie have developed a strong understanding of one another. “They both like to think that they understand the other one the more,” she said, explaining that both characters believe they can read the other person.
Their relationship is also supported by the way they work together. Scodelario said the characters “really respect each other” and “admire each other,” which contributes to how naturally they operate as a team. “I think they have a very easy repertoire between them,” she added.
However, their ability to understand and work with each other does not remove the tension between them. “But the kind of tension on the surface is always there because there’s so much at stake,” Scodelario said. The actress also explained why that trust has limits, saying, “But there is only so much that they can trust each other because they do fundamentally come from different worlds and they have different ambitions.”
