A former member of King Charles‘ staff has pushed back on the “damaging” claims made by Princess Diana’s brother. The news comes from a source after the release of Charles Spencer‘s new memoir, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.” Written in honor of Diana’s upcoming 30th death anniversary, the book contains explosive allegations about the reigning monarch and the royal family.
Source reveals King Charles’ former staff members are joining a ‘PR fightback’ against Charles Spencer
A source has revealed that former staff members of King Charles’ household have come together to launch a concerted public relations pushback against Charles Spencer‘s allegations.
As reported by RadarOnline.com, the Earl’s book has faced strong rebuttals to its accusations. This includes the claim that the then-Prince of Wales sounded “giddily elated” after Princess Diana‘s death in 1997.
Spencer also recounts Charles saying, “We’ll forget her soon enough,” in an angry call over Diana’s funeral arrangements. Grant Harrold, who served as the King’s butler from 2004 to 2011, has joined those refuting the contentious assertions.
Echoing Harrold’s stance, a royal insider said, “Grant isn’t the only former member of staff who feels extremely strongly about what has been written. There are people who served Charles at different stages of his life who simply don’t recognize the man Spencer describes.”
They added that prominent former royal employees are being discreetly urged to speak out about what they saw. There is no script being given to anyone, but the prevailing view is clear. People who directly observed the monarch should share their accounts before this narrative is established as fact.
The Palace source noted, “It’s about developing into a PR fightback because Spencer’s allegations are extraordinarily damaging.” The insider further explained that the Palace cannot respond to every passage in a memoir. Ex-staff members, however, can offer personal recollections that counter the portrayal of King Charles being distant from his late ex-wife.
That said, they clarified that “The intention is not to attack Spencer personally. It’s to ensure his account isn’t the only version people hear.”
