American Idol Alum Guilty of Wife’s Murder After Claiming a Break-In: Report

Trigger warning: The article contains mentions of murder.

An American Idol alum and music pastor has been found guilty of murdering his wife. He was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and three counts of tampering with evidence. He will be sentenced to life in prison without parole on October 5.

Caleb Flynn was reportedly convicted of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, and faces life without parole

According to reports, Flynn fatally shot his wife in the head twice in their Ohio home while she was sleeping. It happened on February 16, but he didn’t confess to the murder; rather, he pinned the blame on intruders who he said broke into the house and committed the crime.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence such as police body-camera footage and data from Flynn’s iPhone and Apple Watch during the time of the murder. Several witnesses were summoned to testify, including former mistress and intern Alleigha Botner, whom he met in church.

Their texts were also read aloud in the court during the trial. One of the messages from Flynn stated, “I was up until 4 a.m. last night crying, literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail.” This was sent in August 2025. Another message from him to Botner also read, “I just want her dead and gone.”

Botner once asked Flynn what she could do about his hatred for his wife. Flynn responded, “Kill her.” While testifying, Botner claimed that she now hates Flynn as she believes that he might have murdered his wife. Apart from this, a song was also played during the trials that prosecutors claimed he wrote for a woman he was having an affair with.

After the court’s verdict, Flynn sobbed. His lawyer, Patrick Mulligan, added,  “While we respect the system, certainly we’re disappointed. There’s a lack of evidence on prior calculation and design.”
