Prince Harry is reportedly planning a documentary about Princess Diana as Charles Spencer prepares to release his memoir about his late sister. According to reports, the Duke of Sussex hopes to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother’s death next year by celebrating her legacy “in the most meaningful way.”
Harry is also said to be planning to reach out to Diana’s extended family and close friends, including his uncle, and invite them to contribute to the documentary.
Prince Harry has approached Diana’s relatives and friends as he considers projects for the 30th anniversary of her death
Prince Harry is reportedly recruiting Princess Diana’s friends and family for a documentary marking the 30th anniversary of her death. The news comes as her brother, Charles Spencer, releases his memoir, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” on September 22, shortly after the 29th anniversary of Diana’s death this year.
Interestingly, The Telegraph reported that Spencer revealed his reasoning for writing the memoir. He said he did not want to become a “talking head” in yet another production about his late sister. Spencer explained that he was concerned documentary producers could pursue a “flawed” or questionable agenda.
Meanwhile, a friend of Harry told the outlet that a documentary about Diana is among the projects being considered, although nothing has been finalised. “He is still considering the most meaningful way to honour her legacy during this important anniversary year,” the friend said.
The project could potentially be produced by Sussexes’ Archewell Productions in partnership with Netflix. Adding to the speculation, a report by Rob Shuter claimed that a Diana documentary is already in the pipeline, with Meghan Markle expected to narrate it.
According to Shuter, the project could create further tension between Harry and his brother, Prince William, who has reportedly been protective of his late mother’s legacy. The report claims the Prince of Wales considers himself the sole custodian of Diana’s legacy and would not welcome Markle’s involvement in the documentary.
Moreover, the Duchess of Sussex is reportedly expected to play a role beyond narration, helping Harry shape the documentary’s narrative. The couple reportedly sees parallels between their experience as royals and Diana’s own life, believing those similarities could bring a more empathetic perspective to the project.
