Sydney Sweeney is facing backlash for her nude photos from Novig‘s new sports-themed ad campaign shoot. In response to the controversy, the Christy actress went on to share more naked photos on Instagram.
This is not the first time Sweeney has been at the center of an ad controversy, having previously drawn attention for her American Eagle denim campaign that used the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

After backlash, Sweeney shares more naked athlete stories
Meanwhile, on her Stories (note: contains nude imagery), the 29-year-old appeared to clap back at critics who slammed her for showing skin to promote the sports-only market prediction platform. She reposted images of Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe and Caroline Wozniacki in revealing magazine spreads.
The SYRN founder also spotlighted male athletes who have posed nude for sports campaigns. She included Myles Garrett, Rob Gronkowski, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jason Kelce in her round-up of naked male athletes.
Sydney Sweeney’s debut promo for Novig went viral for all the wrong reasons. Followers and athletes slammed her in the comments, accusing her of sexualizing women’s sports. One comment read, “As a former athlete and a woman who has personally experienced sexualized comments, I’m genuinely disgusted and deeply disappointed by this campaign.” Another follower wrote, “Thank you for undoing everything women try to build in sports.” A netizen bashed, “Absolutely for male gaze when u don’t have anything for content.”
As shared by Novig founder and CEO Jacob Fortinsky, going nude for the campaign was entirely Sweeney’s own idea. Fortinsky told Front Office Sports that Sweeney was uncomfortable with other platforms hosting bets on personal things. “There’s something clean about sports,” the actress reportedly said.
