Meghan Markle‘s reported return to acting has taken another unexpected turn after new claims of her involvement in Netflix’s “The Gentlemen.” While earlier reports suggested the Duchess of Sussex was in talks to join the series, a new report now alleges there was never a formal offer. The latest development has cast fresh doubt on speculation about Markle’s acting comeback.

Meghan Markle reportedly misinterpreted casual conversation from casting director as an offer

According to Page Six, Meghan Markle was never formally offered a role in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series “The Gentlemen.” The clarification comes despite widespread reports previously linking her to the project. Sources told the outlet the Duchess of Sussex had only one conversation with the show’s casting director, which was allegedly misinterpreted as an official offer.

One insider claimed Markle “took it as an offer,” even though discussions had not progressed beyond an informal conversation. Another source offered a different perspective on the casting discussions. The insider claimed Ritchie initially sparked interest in Markle joining the series, though formal negotiations never followed. 

The report noted that speculation about Markle’s involvement began after Deadline reported that she was in “conversations” to join the show’s third season. The report later updated its wording to state Markle was “in talks.” Industry insiders say this distinction typically suggests a more advanced stage in the casting process. 

The alleged confusion coincided with Markle and Prince Harry’s announcement that they were relocating to the U.K. after several years in California. One source cited by Page Six suggested the reported acting opportunity offered a possible explanation for the family’s move. However, the couple’s representatives declined to comment on the claims.

The report arrived shortly after King Charles publicly clarified the couple’s royal status. He noted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would continue to carry out charitable work as private citizens rather than as working royals.

Neither Markle nor Prince Harry has addressed the latest claims about Markle’s acting comeback. Similarly, neither has commented on the reported interest in “The Gentlemen.”
