Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently responded to King Charles‘s letter clarifying their status. The letter read that the Sussexes are private citizens and non-working royals during their stay in the UK. A spokesperson for the couple responded that they were not prepared for this statement. Now, a former UK MP has warned Markle about her blunt response to the monarch.
Former MP warns Meghan Markle over response to King Charles letter
Former Conservative MP and author Louise Bagshawe, formerly known as Louise Mensch, criticized Meghan Markle over her response to King Charles’ letter. “I think it was another serious error for Meghan to issue an on-the-record statement that she was ‘surprised’ by the King’s announcement,” she wrote on X. Bagshawe added that the Duchess of Sussex “had no right to be notified of it in advance at all. No right to edit it.” She continued, “Nobody wanted her opinion on His Majesty’s sovereign decisions. Saying she was ‘surprised’ is a public protest against those decisions.”
She added, “Saying she was “surprised” is a public protest against those decisions.” The ex-MP said, “If Meghan carries on in this way William’s wishes to remove all the titles are likely to carry the day.” Mensch also explained Charles won’t “tolerate competing press releases for long, it looks like a rival court.” The 55-year-old continued that the King can take action against Markle’s disobedience. She further stated that “he can remove Harry’s status as a Prince of the UK with a stroke of the pen.”
Mensch shared that she believes the monarch would take this step if Markle wanted to disobey him. She warned that the Duchess is “playing with fire.” Meanwhile, the novelist thinks that Harry “deserves better than” his wife’s “petulant endangering of his standing.” Mensch concluded, “I hope Harry makes it clear to her that’s what she is doing. A user commented that Markle needs a professional advisor, as she might not understand British protocol due to an American background. “She has had plenty of time to get it. She uses it for herself. Harry deserves better than Meghan,” Mensch responded.
