Reacher Season 4 kills off America’s next potential President

Reacher Season 4 Episode 7 ends with John Sampson making the ultimate sacrifice.

The episode shows Sampson throwing himself and suicide bomber Tomas Waberi into the Delaware River. The explosive detonates beneath the water, stopping the chemical weapon from spreading through the air. Sampson does not survive the underwater blast. His death brings an abrupt end to his presidential aspirations within the series.

Sampson spots Waberi while attending a fundraiser alongside Elspeth and Springfield. Reacher tells Sampson via phone to locate the bomber without clearing out the event. Jacob recalls Plum mentioning that Lila and Amisha recruited Waberi from Djibouti for this attack. Sampson relies on his Delta training to identify Waberi in the crowd. Instead of waiting for backup from Reacher’s group, Sampson disconnects the call and follows Waberi solo.

Reacher bursts into the fundraiser and alerts security personnel. The commotion rattles the already nervous Waberi, who reaches for his detonator. Sampson immediately lunges at Waberi, dragging them both over the edge into the river. The blast stays contained underwater but costs Sampson his life.

The episode further reveals that Amisha and Lila orchestrated the bombing to avenge their fallen leader. Sampson executed Putra during a classified government operation years prior. Amisha and Lila both saw Sampson kill Putra firsthand. The fundraiser attack would serve two purposes for them. It would provide a live showcase of the weapon for prospective dark web buyers while also fulfilling their decades-long vendetta against Sampson.

The botched demonstration now jeopardizes Amisha and Lila’s plans to auction the formula. The weapon dispersed into the water instead of becoming an airborne threat. Reacher, Tamara, and Jacob still need to neutralize them before they strike again.

Reacher Season 4 Episode 8, “Cut,” premieres on Prime Video on September 16, 2026.
