Succession’s Alan Ruck Names His Condition for a Connor Roy Spin-off Show

Succession may have ended in 2023, but Alan Ruck is still open to returning to the world of the Roy family. The actor recently revealed that he would gladly reprise his role as Connor Roy in a potential spin-off series, although he has one important condition.

During an exclusive interview with The Direct, Ruck said he would return if the original Succession writers were involved in the project.

“If all the same writers were involved, I would be there in a heartbeat,” Ruck said. “I mean, [they were] truly the best writers, and I’ve worked with really good writers, but they were the best writers I’ve ever, ever worked with. And [they were] constantly surprising and just making up fun stuff for us all to do. So, yeah, if that was to happen, I’d be there with bells on.”

For those not following along with the series, Ruck played the oldest of Logan Roy’s children. His character, Connor, was arguably the most unconventional member of the wealthy and dysfunctional family.

While his siblings Kendall, Shiv, and Roman spent much of the series fighting for control of Waystar Royco, Connor mostly followed his own path.

The series remains one of HBO’s most acclaimed shows. Succession holds a 95% average Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its fourth and final season earned a 97% critics’ score.

What happened to Alan Ruck’s Connor Roy at the end of Succession?

Connor spent much of the final season focused on his unlikely presidential campaign and his complicated relationship with Willa Ferreyra, played by Justine Lupe.

Unlike Kendall, Shiv, and Roman, Connor was never seriously in contention to take over Waystar Royco. However, he still wanted recognition and influence, which eventually led him to pursue the presidency despite his campaign having little chance of success.

By the end of Succession, Connor married Willa and appeared to have secured a diplomatic role as the U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia. However, his ending came with the same dark humor that defined the series.

Connor was preparing to move overseas, but Willa planned to remain in New York, where she intended to stay in Logan Roy’s former townhouse and redecorate it. As a result, Connor’s seemingly happy ending was not quite as straightforward as it initially appeared.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong has previously indicated that he viewed the fourth season as the natural conclusion to the Roy family story. Still, Ruck seems interested in revisiting Connor if the right creative team returns.
