Death of the Pastor’s Wife is topping Netflix’s streaming charts
Netflix viewers have pushed Death of the Pastor’s Wife to the top spot, according to FlixPatrol. The three-part true-crime series revisits Mica Miller’s life, marriage, and death, drawing on personal recordings and accounts from those who knew her closely. It arrives as renewed interest surrounds the circumstances that preceded her death at age 30.
Mica was found dead at a North Carolina state park on April 27, 2024. Authorities ruled her death a suicide, but questions grew after she had reported a stalking situation and told police she was “afraid for her life” roughly one month earlier. Her husband, John-Paul Miller, served as pastor of Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (via Tudum).
Mica’s life extended far beyond the painful circumstances surrounding her marriage. Music was a major part of her world from an early age. She sang in church, eventually became a worship leader as a teenager, and developed deep ties within her faith community.
As per her brother, Nate Francis, “Mica has the best voice.” Her relationship with JP Miller, however, took a much darker path. Their romance began while Miller was still married and Mica was working as his assistant. They eventually married in 2017, but the relationship later deteriorated. Mica filed for divorce in April 2024, just two days before her death.
Directors Julia Willoughby Nason and Michael Gasparro built the project around Mica’s journals, home videos, church footage, and other archival material, with her family’s permission. Nason said during Netflix Tudum’s coverage that the team wanted the archive to “speak for itself.” The production also uses voice-recreation technology to present her writings as closely as possible to her own voice.
