Gal Gadot‘s The Runner has hit theaters and streaming with a thud, at least among critics. The new action thriller, which dropped on Amazon Prime Video recently, has landed a 9% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on nearly a dozen reviews. An audience score has yet to appear on the site.

That 9% figure is the lowest critics’ score of Gal Gadot’s career, surpassing even her most maligned projects. In the film, Gadot plays a mother racing to save her kidnapped son, but critics have not been kind to the execution. For comparison, the actress’ career-best Rotten Tomatoes score is from her first standalone movie as Wonder Woman in 2017, which sits at 93% and remains one of the most acclaimed entries in the DC Extended Universe.
The gap between The Runner and Wonder Woman’s Rotten Tomatoes numbers tells much of the story of Gadot’s uneven run with critics. After all, A look through her body of work shows a clear trend: the bigger her role, the rockier the reception tends to be. Her strongest reviews have often come from ensemble films, particularly her supporting turns as Gisele Yashar in the Fast & Furious franchise, with Fast Five scoring 77-78% and Furious 7 hitting 81%.
By contrast, her lead vehicles have struggled. Heart of Stone, her Netflix action film from 2023, landed in the 26-31% range depending on the source. Red Notice, another Netflix headliner, scored in the mid-to-high 30s. Keeping Up with the Joneses, a 2016 comedy, ranks among her lowest-rated films, with reviews ranging from 18-20%.
The Runner and Heart of Stone stand out as her two most recent self-led action films, and both rank among her lowest-rated films, with the former now setting a new low. The release is also amid political controversy. Gadot has faced ongoing criticism for her support of the Israeli military and her comments regarding hostages held in Gaza.
