Kat Dennings Reveals Her Wild Tom Hardy Story for Mad Max: Fury Road

Kat Dennings recently opened up about auditioning with Tom Hardy for Mad Max: Fury Road. The 2 Broke Girls star had auditioned for the movie but didn’t secure a role in the final ensemble cast. The film ultimately cast Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the female lead parts.

According to Kat Dennings, her Mad Max: Fury Road audition with Tom Hardy remains unforgettable, mostly uncomfortable, with a heartwarming twist at the end.

The Marvel actress revealed in a social media clip that she did “a chemistry read” with the English actor so the producers could test their dynamic. Dennings revealed that hearing Michael Fassbender talk about bombing his own audition for the film inspired her to share her story.

“Basically, what happened was, an acting class, if it was the worst day of your life,” said the 40-year-old.

“At one point, they had us switch roles,” she added. “They had the camera and had us like running around the corner. The worst part of it, I do believe, was when the acting coach told us to say the lines without saying the lines, encouraging us to just make noises instead of the lines.” As Dennings put it, she was “dying.”

According to the Shifting Gears actress, she had no way to get home once it was all done. When Hardy learned about it, he offered to drive her, and after some hesitation, she accepted. “He drove me home. He was so lovely. We get to my house, which is my parents’ house, because I still lived at home with my parents,” she shared.

Kat Dennings further explained that she brought the Venom star over to meet her mom, said her goodbyes, and headed off for a nap in the converted garage she was living in at the time. She came back hours later to find Hardy still there, having tea with her mom.

That one gesture made Dennings a lifelong fan of the actor. “I think he’s a wonderful person. And my mom still talks about him,” she noted.
