Gal Gadot‘s recent straight-to-streaming action thriller arrived on Prime Video today. Also starring Damian Lewis, the movie is a psychological thriller that follows a mother forced into a desperate race across London.
The Runner is now available to stream on Prime Video. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the new movie puts the Wonder Woman star at the center of a dangerous race against time. However, critics are divided about the film. At the time of writing, the movie holds a 10% critics’ rating based on 21 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie opened to mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. However, Gadot’s performance earned praise, while reviewers criticized the film’s action, familiar plot, and implausible logic. Some believe that Damian Lewis was underused and the film’s conclusion was unsatisfying.
Who does Gal Gadot play in The Runner?
Gadot stars as Maia Marten, a high-powered lawyer in London whose life turns upside down with a threatening phone call. She must race across the city while following orders from the caller.
The film’s synopsis reads, “A high-powered attorney must race through London to save her abducted son while following cryptic commands from a mysterious caller.”
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese, Gadot discussed how she prepared for the role. “I worked with an incredible Olympic trainer. His name is Malachi Davis, and he taught me how to run. I am not a runner. And actually, if there’s one thing I really don’t like to do when I work out, it’s running,” she said.
Lewis plays The Caller. The film also stars Alfred Enoch as Ted, while Rory Wilmot appears as Noah Marten (Maia’s son). Other supporting roles include Nathan Kirby, Will Austin, Kenton Lloyd, Mark Hampton, and Stevie Binns, among others.
Mark Gibson penned the script, while David Kosse, who co-executive produced the Peaky Blinders film, produced the movie.
