Why Gal Gadot’s Failed James Bond Audition Was a Blessing in Disguise

Gal Gadot revealed the unlikely connection between her worst audition and her biggest break. The actress explained how a failed James Bond tryout led directly to her Fast & Furious casting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Gal Gadot’s failed James Bond audition led her to Fast & Furious

Gal Gadot recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz. She revealed her first-ever audition was for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Gadot admitted she initially did not even want to attend the audition.

“I wasn’t an actress,” Gadot told Horowitz. “It conflicted with my schedule in college, and I was not planning on going.” She attended out of respect for the casting director. The casting director helped her extensively, spending hours coaching her through the script. “She said, ‘I’m here for 3 hours. Go outside, learn the lines, and I’ll help you,'” Gadot recalled.

Gadot did not land the Bond role, which ultimately went to Olga Kurylenko. However, the same casting director later recommended her for Fast & Furious. That connection proved career-changing for the Israeli actress. “She was the one to cast me for Fast and Furious,” Gadot confirmed. “That was the first film I’ve ever done.”

The Fast & Furious franchise became Gadot’s entry point into Hollywood. She played Gisele Yashar starting with the fourth installment in 2009. Director Justin Lin eventually chose her over six other actresses for the supporting role.

Gadot also shared the humorous phone call when Lin informed her about Gisele’s death. “He’s like, ‘So, I need to talk to you about Gizelle’s death.’ And I’m like, ‘She’s deaf?'” Gadot said. The bad phone connection created a memorable misunderstanding between director and actress.

The actress acknowledged the Bond rejection with good humor. “How rude of me to even think I would ever be able to get the part,” she said. That early setback ultimately redirected her toward a blockbuster franchise and global stardom.

Gadot now stars in The Runner, a thriller directed by Kevin Macdonald. She plays a single mother forced to run across a city to save her kidnapped son.
