Neon has released the official trailer for Fjord, a new legal thriller starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. Following its phenomenal reception at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the movie has already begun generating Oscar buzz.
Fjord arrives in theaters on October 9, 2026. The movie is written, co-produced, and directed by Cristian Mungiu. It is inspired by the true story of the Bodnariu family, whose children were forcibly taken away from them by Norwegian authorities.

What happens in Fjord trailer?
Fjord follows the conservative Gheorghiu family consisting of a Romanian father, a Norwegian mother, and their kids. They move to the mother’s hometown, a remote Norwegian village. There, the couple faces scrutiny over suspected mistreatment of their kids.
The trailer opens with the Gheorghiu family befriending their new neighbors, the Halbergs. The clip then introduces the central conflict, showing the couple’s eldest daughter arriving at school with a bruise. This incident raises concern among the townspeople and the authorities, who suspect that the couple is mistreating their children.
