Subscribers have only a little time left to watch Chris Pratt‘s 2016 sci-fi movie Passengers on Netflix before it leaves the streaming platform. The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum helmed the film, which achieved moderate box-office success despite criticism for its controversial plot twist.
Passengers is leaving Netflix next month
According to a report by What’s On Netflix, Chris Pratt’s movie Passengers is leaving the streaming platform, Netflix, on September 1.
Besides Pratt, the film’s cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne, Andy Garcia, Michael Sheen, and many more. However, despite its stellar cast, the movie received largely poor reviews from critics.
Made on a budget of $110 million, the movie made around $100 million at the domestic box office (via Box Office Mojo). At the international box office, Passengers went on to earn close to $203 million, which took the lifetime collection of the movie to $303 million. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie’s response was much more negative.
Passengers received a score of 30 percent on the Tomatometer based on reviews from critics. On the Popcornmeter, it received a slightly better score of 63 percent based on audience reviews. One of the major issues that critics took with the film was its tone. While it was marketed as a sci-fi romance, many believed it was often closer to a psychological thriller. A central twist in the film’s narrative concerning the relationship between its main characters, played by Pratt and Lawrence, became a talking point among critics.
In 2017, Pratt addressed the criticism while speaking to Variety. He said he was “really caught off guard” by the poor reviews Passengers received. Pratt conveyed that the reception taught him a lesson. He also said he thought the film turned out well and was “very proud of it.” Pratt also questioned whether opinion on either the film or the criticism will change over the years.
