Hayden Panettiere Investigation Update: New Details Emerge About Her Final Hours

New details have emerged about the final hours of late actress Hayden Panettiere. The former Heroes and Nashville star, 36, passed away in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday.

It’s been revealed by a source that Panettiere’s on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, was with her when she died at a residence, reports People. The latest update follows previous reports of an unnamed friend who made the 911 call at around 1:51 p.m. However, it remains unclear whether Hickerson made the call.

Her death was confirmed by a family representative in a statement on Sunday. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” read the statement.

What we know so far about Hayden Panettiere’s death investigation

Panettiere was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16, 2026. It was later revealed that she was in cardiac arrest.

When the paramedics reached the house, following the 911 call, they mentioned “overdose” while the “CPR [was] in progress.” The official cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

In an official statement, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office revealed that first responders and Emergency Medical Services tried to revive Panettiere using advanced cardiac life support. Unfortunately, their “resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2:32 PM,” read the statement. Authorities have also reported no “signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.”

As for Hickerson’s history with the late actress, he was previously arrested multiple times on domestic-violence-related charges during their relationship. In 2020, she also released a statement following his arrest on eight domestic-violence charges. “I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me in the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve,” she stated.

Panettiere was last publicly seen with Hickerson in March 2026.
