Chicago P.D.’s Jesse Lee Soffer eyes TV return with CBS drama Strike Force
Jesse Lee Soffer is set to return to network television in a new CBS law enforcement drama. Variety reported that CBS has opened a development room for the series, titled Strike Force (working title). The project reunites Soffer with longtime collaborator Matt Olmstead, who is writing and executive producing the show.
Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed also serve as executive producers via Jerry Bruckheimer TV. CBS Studios will produce the series. The network is developing Strike Force to potentially launch during the 2027-2028 broadcast season.
The show’s logline reads, “A battle-tested DEA agent (Soffer) returns home to Kansas City to lead a multi-agency strike force targeting the violent criminals now trying to exploit America’s heartland.” Soffer will star in and executive produce the project alongside Olmstead.
Soffer is best known for playing Senior Detective Jay Halstead in Chicago P.D. for 10 seasons before departing. He and Olmstead previously worked together on that series, which Olmstead co-created with Dick Wolf. Olmstead also served as showrunner on Chicago P.D. for four seasons.
The pair later reunited on FBI: International at CBS. Soffer joined that Wolf Entertainment show for its fourth and final season. Olmstead served as a writer and executive producer on the series during that time.
Beyond Chicago P.D., Soffer appeared in both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. He also featured in a crossover episode with Law & Order: SVU. His earlier credits include As the World Turns and Hatfields & McCoys.
Olmstead has worked extensively with Wolf across multiple franchises throughout his career. He co-created Chicago Med, Chicago Justice, and Law & Order: Organized Crime starring Christopher Meloni. His other credits include NYPD Blue, Prison Break, and Stumptown.
