Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to have been upset after King Charles held a private meeting with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Highgrove House. The reunion reportedly lasted only a few hours, but its impact may have been far greater.
Royal expert Emily Andrews described the reaction as one of feeling “betrayed and possibly even humiliated.” Her comments, published by Woman & Home, suggested the meeting may have been particularly difficult for the Waleses given the history between the two brothers.
Harry and Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020 and later discussed their experiences with the Royal Family publicly. William and Harry have remained estranged, with recent reports indicating there has been no movement toward a reconciliation between the brothers.
Meanwhile, Charles has appeared more open to maintaining a relationship with his younger son and grandchildren. The Highgrove meeting reportedly included Markle and the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. It marked a significant family moment, even though no reconciliation between Harry and William was reported.
That seemingly left William and Middleton facing a complicated situation. Their alleged “crisis talks,” however, may not have been as dramatic as the phrase suggests. Crisis management expert Holly Baird offered some context. As per OK! Magazine, she explained that “crisis talks” can refer to more than an emergency meeting. In royal coverage, she said, the phrase may describe discussions about public messaging, timing, appearances, and whether to respond to a developing story.
Baird also pointed to the bigger issue. “Unresolved family tension creates an evergreen narrative,” she said. In other words, every public appearance, interview, or perceived slight can bring the wider family dispute back into the headlines.
However, Baird cautioned against taking the “humiliation” angle too literally. She suggested that framing the situation that way could be strategically unhelpful for William and Middleton.
