Tyler Perry’s Long Awaited Comedy Sequel Is Finally Headed to Netflix Very Soon

Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? is finally heading to Netflix, giving fans of the franchise another film over 16 years after the last installment. The long-awaited comedy sequel will continue the story of the couples from the previous films while introducing a new family event that brings them back together.

Why Did I Get Married Again? arrives on Netflix next month

Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? is coming to Netflix next month. According to What’s on Netflix, the long-awaited comedy sequel is set to begin streaming exclusively on the platform on September 9, 2026.

The film is the latest entry in Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? franchise and reunites several fan-favorite characters for another story. The upcoming movie is the third film in the series, following Why Did I Get Married? in 2007 and Why Did I Get Married Too? in 2010. The movies also spawned a TV spin-off titled For Better or Worse.

The new story shifts the focus to the next generation as a wedding brings the families back together. Jasmine is preparing to marry Wesley, but her father does not approve of the relationship. As the wedding approaches, the situation causes the couples around them to examine their own marriages and the choices they have made over the years.

According to the film’s official logline, “Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question: Why did they get married… again?” The returning cast includes Perry as Terry, Jill Scott as Sheila, Richard T. Jones as Mike, Tasha Smith as Angela, Michael Jai White as Marcus, and Sharon Leal as Dianne.

Perry wrote and directed the sequel as well as producing alongside Angi Bones and Tony Strickland.
