In a recent interview, Willem Dafoe talked about his experience voicing a James Bond villain in the 2004 video game James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing. He also suggested that he’d be open to participating in a live-action project.
Willem Dafoe wants to reprise his forgotten James Bond villain role
While speaking with Collider’s Aidan Kelley, Willem Dafoe noted that under the right circumstances, he would consider returning to the James Bond franchise, just like he did with his character of Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“I don’t want to send a little headline out there, but, you know, in the right situation,” the four-time Academy Award nominee said about potentially returning to the Bond franchise. He further added, “I’ve watched Bond films through the years. They’re a particular thing. Yeah, it is something that might be fun to do, and I’d really check it out if they came my way.”
Dafoe voiced villain Nikolai Diavolo in the 2004 video game James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, with Pierce Brosnan voicing Bond.
Dafoe notably returned to the Spider-Man movie franchise after a lengthy absence to reprise his role as Norman Osborn / Green Goblin in 2021. Spider-Man: No Way Home would go on to bring in over $1.9 billion at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo).
During the interview, Dafoe also explained how he first came to the James Bond villain role in Everything or Nothing. “I remember it was a very quick recording session,” he noted. “I kind of invented an accent on the spot. It was very loosey-goosey. But many people have told me they really enjoy it, so it’s a case of sometimes it’s good to jump in and play it loose and fast. Sometimes that has a spirit that may not be precise, but it has a spirit that really brings the character to life.”
