Whoopi Goldberg Says She Might Leave ‘The View’ Under One Condition

Despite previously praising the massive paycheck she earns from The View, Whoopi Goldberg has admitted that leaving the long-running talk show could become a possibility if a more lucrative opportunity came along. In a recent interview, the EGOT winner opened up about the challenges of the job and explained why a higher-paying offer might persuade her to walk away.

Whoopi Goldberg says ‘more money’ could make her leave The View

During her August 4 appearance on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, Whoopi Goldberg emphasized that leaving The View could happen under certain conditions.

Talking about how her stint on The View affects other work opportunities, the 70-year-old actor noted, “Every accolade I’ve received, I’m grateful for. But it doesn’t always translate into work. It’s nice that I have all those things. But do I constantly have to say to people, ‘I’d like to work with you?’ Yeah, because I don’t come right up in your mind. I’m not the first one you think of.”

She continued, “I constantly say to people, ‘Yes, I’m still open for this.’ And especially now, because people say, ‘Well, you’re on The View, you can’t do anything.’ If I need to go, I go.”

Goldberg further stressed how “very few of us [actors] are actually making the kind of money you’re reading about,” before suggesting that leaving The View could turn into reality if she had more money.

“Because if I had that kind of money—and I love my job—I don’t know that I’d still be doing it. I don’t know that I’d still be doing the show. But a girl’s gotta eat, and I never married well, so I still have to support myself!” she added.

Nevertheless, Goldberg did not shy away from hyping up her current salary on The View. “The check. I love the check,” she remarked, adding that Keke Palmer “would be shocked” to hear what she earns on the show.
