Meghan Markle Tried to Keep It Simple, but One Request Sparked a Firestorm — Source

Meghan Markle’s appearance on “MasterChef Australia” drew a lot of attention. While she seemed to try to keep it simple, her one request raised eyebrows. During the episode, she was introduced as the Duchess of Sussex. Then, one of the judges asked her how she would like to be addressed. Her response reportedly sparked “strong reactions online,” according to a source.

Meghan Markle’s ‘Call me Meghan’ moment sparks debate, claims report

Meghan Markle’s one request on “MasterChef Australia” sparked debate online. On the show, she was welcomed as the Duchess of Sussex, who challenged the contestants to create a dish “fit for a duchess.” She appeared as a special judge, joining the regular line-up, including Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe.

Yeow asked Markle how she would prefer to be addressed. In response, the mother of two said, “Oh, call me Meghan. Absolutely, yeah.” It seemed a simple request, but drew attention online. Referring to the same, a source told RadarOnline that Markle has always preferred a “relaxed approach in everyday settings.” “Asking to be called Meghan wasn’t about rejecting her title – it reflected the way she wants people to interact with her personally,” they said.

Furthermore, the insider claimed that any topic around the royal title would grab attention in any setting. Additionally, critics have reportedly been slamming Markle for “calling herself a duchess as she is not a working member of the royal family.” So, she did, but it might not have been her intention, and the “Suits” alum still sparked debate online.

For those unversed, Prince Harry and Markle stepped down as working royals in 2020 when they left the UK. The couple rebuilt their life with their two kids in California. Allegedly, many people still question why the couple still have their duke and duchess titles.

Meanwhile, an insider told the outlet that the debate over this seemed never-ending. “For supporters it shows she’s approachable, while critics see it differently. Either way, the conversation around her public identity shows no sign of fading.”
