As per Radar Online, the private meeting has been viewed as evidence that things are improving between Charles and the Sussexes. The royal palace fears that the Sussexes may use this to map their return to the UK.
A source dished to the outlet: “There is understandable caution within palace circles because any improvement in family relations inevitably fuels speculation about what the future might look like. The priority is maintaining clear expectations about everyone’s role.”
Another insider echoed the previous one’s sentiments. They stated that the palace worries the Sussexes could demand a bigger role and more privileges in due course. The palace fears that the Sussexes may eventually convince Charles to allow their return to the UK. This is something Prince William certainly does not want to happen.
Previously, Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English warned the royal palace to remain vigilant on the Palace Confidential podcast. She shared that the Sussexes may interpret the private meeting as a sign that the King wants his younger son and his grandchildren back.
English explained that Buckingham Palace approached the reunion with the “best of intentions” but hoped that the Sussexes don’t interpret it in another way. She said: “That’s where they need to watch their back a bit.”
