The trend ‘Obama 2028’ has taken over social media after Donald Trump joked about doing a fourth term as President. Currently, the 22nd Amendment does not allow a person to run more than two terms as President. Previously, Trump had also suggested running for President a third time.
‘Obama 2028’ trends online after Donald Trump’s joke
Donald Trump recently made a joke about doing a fourth term as President, which led to the rise of ‘Obama 2028.’ Trump made the statement while speaking at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington.
According to NBC News, during the speech, Trump called out the media industry, asserting that they are “all going to be broke” after Trump’s term ends. He said, “Your business model is going to be finished. There’s not going to be anybody to report on. Nobody gives a damn about anybody else.” However, he joked that his potential fourth term would solve this problem for the news industry and pulled out a red Trump 2028 hat.
He stated, “Tonight, to show just how much I care about the press, and I want to save your ratings. I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States. I will be doing that.”
Following this remark, a user shared a GIF and predicted the return of former President Barack Obama by stating, “Trump’s pushing for the ability to run for a third term in 2028. Barack Obama, aged 67.”
Another user campaigned for Obama to run in 2028 and wrote, “OBAMA 2028.”
A third user questioned, “Does that mean Obama 2028 is a real option too?”
A fourth user shared a photo of Obama and wrote, “If MAGA endorses a Trump 2028 presidency. I endorse an Obama 2028 presidency.”
A third term is uncertain for Obama, as in January 2021 his wife, Michelle, stated in a podcast that she does not want him to run again if Trump changes the amendment.
