Meghan Markle‘s recent appearance on MasterChef Australia has sparked fresh scrutiny. A body language expert claimed the Duchess of Sussex appeared to be “cosplaying” as a professional chef. The expert suggested that Meghan balanced two distinct public personas throughout the episode. She combined her royal image with efforts to present herself as a relatable cooking enthusiast.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared on MasterChef Australia, where contestants were challenged to create a dish “fit for a duchess” using a selection of ingredients chosen by Meghan herself.
Markle asked contestants to incorporate Australian honey, macadamia nuts, celeriac, citrus fruits, and edible flowers into their dishes for the challenge. She chose edible flowers because she has often used them in her own cooking content.
Contestants also had to feature a seasonal ingredient and share a personal story connected to their dish. The episode was filmed during Meghan’s April visit to Australia. It featured the Duchess sharing personal anecdotes about Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Body language expert Judi James analyzed Meghan’s appearance in comments to the Express. According to James, Meghan entered the studio with visible excitement but maintained what she described as a distinctly royal presence.
“As she struts in through the studio, her brows are raised, and her eye expression registers excitement,” James said. “Her poise, though, is pure ‘Duchess’ to remind everyone of her status.”
The expert also pointed to Meghan Markle’s MasterChef outfit, saying her black shirt and skirt looked only “one apron away” from resembling a chef’s uniform. James argued that Meghan used what she described as “authoritarian-style” gestures to create the impression of someone accustomed to leading a kitchen.
James further suggested Meghan’s appearance resembled what she called “chef cosplay.” “There’s the chef cosplay look because she apparently has to line up with the other judges, projecting a level of expertise as she puts the competitors through their paces,” the expert said.
