Nickelodeon’s Avatar franchise is set to continue expanding beyond Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender with a new series. Ahead of the animated film’s release, the series’ creators have confirmed that another project is already in development. However, as of now, details regarding cast, production, and plot remain under wraps.
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender team reveals a ‘secret’ project is in development
Avatar Studios is already planning what comes next after Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. While the upcoming animated film brings the franchise back to the big screen, its creators have confirmed that another project is already in development. As of now, the title and story have not been revealed.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko spoke to GamesRadar+ about the future of the franchise. The pair explained that the studio’s current focus has shifted to television. DiMartino said, “There’s stuff in development, just TV shows in production, but not features at the moment.”
Konietzko then confirmed that another series is already being made, adding, “We have another secret thing in production, but yeah, it’s on the series side.” He also explained why the team is happy to return to television, saying, “To be clear, we’re series people, so that’s okay to us. Features is a new thing to us.”
This is not the first time Konietzko has hinted that more Avatar projects are on the way. Earlier, he revealed that Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender was only one part of a larger slate, saying, “The [Avatar] Aang movie was just one of a whole slate. I’m working on another thing, which we’ll announce when the time’s right.”
The creators did not reveal any details about the new series. For now, the focus remains on Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on July 25, 2026.
