King Charles has reportedly been facing “growing pressure” to expose ex-Prince Andrew’s finances. According to a source, the 77-year-old might have to address his younger brother’s private rental income. Things seemed to have become more complicated after Buckingham Palace hinted it might provide details. For those unversed, Charles stripped Andrew of his royal title last year and sent him away to Marsh Farms.
Report claims King Charles faces questions over Ex-Prince Andrew’s financial support
King Charles would reportedly have to expose ex-Prince Andrew’s finances related to Royal Lodge. According to RadarOnline, the ex-Duke of York has lived at the Windsor property since signing a lease with the Crown Estate in 2004. He was allowed to sublet three cottages. Instead of returning the rent to the Crown Estate, Andrew allegedly retained it.
However, this agreement was said to have ended when he moved to the Sandringham estate’s Marsh Farm this year. Despite the move, King Charles might have to expose his brother’s financial support. Reportedly, British MPs have been putting pressure on the monarch.
“There is growing pressure for complete transparency over Andrew’s financial arrangements. If Parliament asks for the figures, there appears to be little appetite to withhold them,” a source told the outlet.
Furthermore, they stated that it would be “uncomfortable” for Andrew if his financial details went public. “But many believe openness is now the only way to answer persistent questions about the deal. It will be another huge blow from Charles to Andrew.”
Charles has already stripped him of his royal titles due to his controversial past. Andrew was also asked to move out of Royal Lodge. Things between him and his brother became more complicated when the ex-duke was arrested. He was taken into custody in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Meanwhile, former Public Accounts Committee chair Baroness Margaret Hodge told the outlet about Andrew’s financial situation. “Allowing (him) to make money out of rents – it’s a potential loss to the taxpayer, so we need to know about it.”
