Sophie Thatcher has finally weighed in on a comparison fans keep bringing up. The actress says she’s eager to see why audiences keep connecting her Iris character from Companion to Obsession’s Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette. Rather than brushing off the discussion, Thatcher embraced it, admiring fellow actress Navarrette.
While promoting her latest film, Her Private Hell, Thatcher admitted she hadn’t yet watched Obsession. But she said the constant comparisons have only made her more curious to check it out.

During an interview with Variety, Thatcher was asked about viewers drawing parallels between her performance in Companion and Navarrette’s Nikki in Obsession. Instead of debating whether the similarities were intentional, Thatcher focused on praising her fellow performer.
“I haven’t!” Thatcher said when asked if she had seen Obsession. She went on to describe Navarrette as “so cool,” adding that she genuinely looks up to her. Having only caught clips online, Thatcher said she loves that Navarrette comes across as both a gamer and someone refreshingly down-to-earth.
The Companion star also admitted she keeps hearing about the resemblance from fans. That has only fueled her interest in watching the film herself. Calling the comparisons “flattering,” Thatcher noted that Obsession has earned plenty of praise. This has made her even more excited to experience it firsthand.
The conversation arrived as Thatcher reflected on her evolving career. Best known for playing Natalie in Yellowjackets, she has also earned acclaim through darker genre projects, including Heretic and the sci-fi thriller Companion. However, Thatcher recently revealed that she’s ready to move beyond constantly portraying emotionally heavy characters, saying she’d like to explore “lighter,” more “grounded” roles instead of always diving into darkness.
Away from television, Sophie Thatcher is also promoting Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell, a surreal horror film marking the acclaimed director’s first feature in nearly a decade. Thatcher said she welcomed the film’s polarizing reception, adding that she doesn’t want to make projects that feel “safe or boring” and understands why some viewers may respond differently.
