Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s other child has enlisted legal help to get her father’s name officially removed. The reason behind dropping the last name hasn’t been detailed, but it was briefly stated. This move comes after Zahara and Maddox also ditched the surname, as seen during the former’s graduation ceremony and in the latter’s Couture movie credits, respectively.
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt files petition to remove Pitt from her surname
Vivienne recently submitted a petition to the Los Angeles County Superior Court for removal of her last name. She, referred to as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, wants her father’s name to be dropped legally.
According to the court documents, the reason behind the name modification is cited as “personal.” Her petition would be addressed during a hearing on November 2. While she pursued a legal way recently, she did abandon the Pitt surname back in 2024, as her credits in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders showcased her name as Vivienne Jolie (via PEOPLE).
Earlier this year, it was reported that even Zahara and Maddox have chosen not to use the Pitt surname. During Zahara’s introduction at her graduation ceremony, she was referred to as just Jolie. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Spelman College. On the other hand, Maddox dropped his father’s surname in the credits of Jolie-starred and produced Couture. In the movie, he worked as an assistant director and was credited as Maddox Jolie. This was his first film where the Pitt name was ditched. In his earlier movie, Maria, his father’s name was present in his credits.
This name modification movie also comes in light of a recent report that suggests that Jolie is aiming for a fresh start outside of Los Angeles, now that her kids have turned adults. The source said, “She’s been talking about leaving Los Angeles for years. She’s happy to have more freedom and flexibility in her life.” While where she would relocate isn’t announced, a country name that keeps coming up is Cambodia. This is because she has earlier referred to it as a place she considers home.
