A viral AI edit by Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law upstaged the 2026 FIFA World Cup celebration. Lara Trump’s new social media post blew up online, drawing focus away from the ongoing festivities. The snap was from the championship match that brought the curtain down on the World Cup jointly hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Lara Trump reveals she used AI for latest World Cup photo
Lara Trump found herself in controversy at the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19. According to RadarOnline.com, sharp-eyed users accused her of using AI to alter photos of herself and her family at the game. So much so that she eventually confessed and acknowledged the botched edits.
The political figure watched the World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey alongside her husband Eric Trump and their kids, Luke, who is 8 years old, and Carolina, who is 6. However, a smiling selfie with her daughter drew criticism, largely because of the obvious errors people noticed.
The photo showed her seated next to her family as they watched the game from a luxury suite. Luke was on his dad’s lap, while the television host had her arms around Carolina. “What a blast!!!” read the caption.
However, eagle-eyed social media users quicky called out the photo, noting that Lara Trump’s arms looked disproportionately big and didn’t match her frame. The red straw in her daughter’s cup also appeared bent and digitally changed.
The 43-year-old eventually owned up to the edits on Instagram stories, writing, “When AI takes over… the app I used to fit this in the frame changed my nails and made Carolina’s straw SOOO long.” She reposted the image with a public apology and a nervous laughing emoji over it.
Besides being trolled for the AI photo, Lara Trump was also called out for using the caption “What a blast” only days after two American troops were killed in Jordan while responding to Iranian ballistic missiles and drone strikes. The incident pushed the number of American deaths to 17, with around 430 people injured.
