Jon Stewart Couldn’t Believe Donald Trump Stayed for Spain’s Trophy Lift

Jon Stewart had some choice words for Donald Trump after he didn’t leave the stage at the World Cup final. The Daily Show host roasted the president for overshadowing Spain’s championship celebration with his lingering presence.

Jon Stewart slammed President Donald Trump on The Daily Show for crashing Spain’s World Cup celebration at MetLife Stadium. The host criticized Trump for lingering on stage after Spain defeated Argentina in the final on Sunday night.

“What the f**k are you doing on the stage?!” Stewart asked during his Monday monologue. He then added, “Why must everything be tainted by the overinflated ego of Cankles Muldoon?” The comedian has repeatedly mocked Trump’s visibly swollen ankles throughout his second term in office.

Trump walked on stage with the Spanish team after their victory and refused to leave initially. FIFA president Gianni Infantino eventually ushered the president off the stage during the trophy presentation. Spain’s official X account later edited Trump out of photos and clips from the celebration entirely.

Stewart also targeted an interview Trump gave after the match. The president declared the game was “four times greater than any FIFA ever held.” Stewart responded by asking, “What’s a FIFA? How do you hold a FIFA?” Trump then escalated his claim further in the same interview. He told reporters the event was “probably about five times, actually, they’re telling me today.”

“You know, they’re telling you that because everyone around you lies to you, because you’re a weirdo,” Stewart fired back. The crowd at MetLife Stadium had already booed Trump heavily during the match itself. HuffPost White House reporter S.V. Dáte noted the ambient crowd noise measured around 78 decibels. The booing raised that level to 84 decibels, according to the White House Press Pool report.

Argentina defender Cristian Romero also declined to shake Trump’s hand in a viral clip. An Australian broadcaster remarked on live TV, “They can edit him out of that.”
