Savannah Guthrie Did What No One Expected With Today Show Return — Source

Savannah Guthrie did not take the long break many expected after her mother disappeared. The NBC anchor returned to the Today Show chair on April 6, two months after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson-area home. A new source claimed friends and colleagues believed the return came too fast. The report framed the move as unexpected because NBC had urged more time away before she resumed the morning broadcast.

Savannah Guthrie’s circle believes ‘she rushed back too soon’ to Today Show amid mom’s disappearance, per source

According to RadarOnline, Savannah Guthrie returned after a major family crisis. The outlet said her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared on February 1. The report said she vanished from her home in the Tucson area in the middle of the night.

Guthrie, 54, returned to the Today Show on April 6. RadarOnline said NBC executives urged her “to take as much time away as she needed.”

Meanwhile, one insider said people around Guthrie questioned the timing. The source said, “There are a lot of people” at work and among friends. Those people believed “she rushed back too soon,” according to the insider.

The source added it may have been wiser to step away until “this horrific situation was resolved.” Another source said, “NBC practically begged her to take a break.” The insider added, “Nobody expected her back.”

Still, the report said her colleagues adjusted after she returned. One source said the Today Show team went into a protective mode around her. The insider said, “The goal was to let Savannah do her job.”

The source added they did not want her forced to “relive the worst experience” on air. However, RadarOnline said the journalist discussed the case publicly on multiple occasions. One insider said, “nobody could blame her” for throwing herself into work. For Savannah Guthrie, the return became a choice that surprised both NBC and her inner circle.
