A new rumor suggests that Marvel Studios is looking to cast Margot Robbie in an iconic X-Men role. If true, it would mark Robbie’s second major comic book role, following her portrayal of Harley Quinn in DC films. Robbie has been previously rumored to be in contention to play Emma Frost, but the latest scoop challenges that notion.
Which X-Men role does Marvel reportedly want Margot Robbie to play in the MCU?
A new scoop from @mainmiddleman suggests that Margot Robbie might actually be playing Mystique. The scooper also claims that Robbie was offered the role, though not for the planned X-Men reboot. If true, it would be a surprising move for Marvel to introduce Mystique, a key X-Men character, in a different film.
The scooper also claimed that some “core” X-Men characters are planned to feature in Marvel’s Special Presentations, similar to The Punisher and Werewolf by Night. It should be noted that this is only a rumor, and it should be treated as such at this time, as Marvel Studios has not officially announced any casting for X-Men.
The casting rumor also aligns with other recent reports linking Bill Skarsgård to Professor X, Adam Driver to Mister Sinister, and Charles Melton to Beast. All of the actors mentioned, including Robbie, are in a similar age range. However, it remains to be seen whether Marvel will cast a younger core X-Men team, which reportedly may not include Wolverine.
The original X-Men cast will share the screen with the Avengers and Fantastic Four in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel has also been rumored to have cast Sadie Sink as Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. At the time of writing, various rumors have pointed to Inde Navarette and Odessa A’zion being Marvel’s top choices for playing Rogue.
Marvel Studios has not officially announced a release date for the X-Men reboot.
