A hit romantic comedy starring Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller will soon be unavailable on Netflix. A major box office success upon its release, the R-rated film became one of the most popular comedies of the late 1990s and remains a fan favorite decades later. Subscribers now have a limited time to stream it before it leaves the platform.

There’s Something About Mary is leaving Netflix next month

There’s Something About Mary, an R-rated comedy starring Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller, will leave Netflix next month. According to What’s on Netflix, the film is scheduled to exit the platform on August 1, 2026.

Directed by the Farrelly brothers, Peter and Bobby, There’s Something About Mary was released in theaters on July 15, 1998. The romantic comedy became one of the year’s biggest box-office successes and remains one of the Farrelly brothers’ best-known films.

The film follows Ted Stroehmann, whose chance to attend the high school prom with his crush, Mary Jensen, ends in a painfully embarrassing accident. More than a decade later, Ted discovers he has never stopped thinking about her and hires private investigator Pat Healy to find her. However, instead of helping his client, Pat becomes interested in Mary himself and deliberately misleads Ted to pursue her. Refusing to give up, Ted tracks Mary down on his own, only to discover that he is not the only man trying to win her back.

The film stars Diaz as Mary Jensen and Stiller as Ted Stroehmann. Other cast members include Matt Dillon as Pat Healy, Lee Evans as Tucker/Norm Phipps, Chris Elliott as Dom “Woogie” Woganowski, and Lin Shaye as Magda, among others.

The film received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, There’s Something About Mary has an 84 percent critics’ score based on 87 reviews. Its audience score is comparatively lower at 61 percent. According to Box Office Mojo, the film earned over $176 million domestically and more than $193 million internationally.
