DC’s Aquaman Actor Now Courted for Professor X in X-Men Reboot — Report

As the MCU’s X-Men reboot gradually takes shape, a recent casting rumor has shed light on the actor who could potentially take on the mantle of Professor X in the much-awaited flick. The latest update regarding the Jake Schreier-helmed feature suggests that a major star from the now-defunct DCEU’s Aquaman might jump ship to Marvel in the role of Charles Xavier.

Patrick Wilson rumored for Professor X role in X-Men reboot

According to Knight Edge Media, Marvel Studios is supposedly eyeing Patrick Wilson of the Conjuring franchise as the leader of the titular mutant force for its upcoming X-Men reboot.

The report states that Wilson has been on Marvel’s radar for the role of Professor X for several weeks now. Additionally, the 53-year-old thespian would be portraying a comic-accurate American version of the telepathic superhero in the movie instead of the British variant that fans have witnessed so far in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men series.

However, MCU viewers should take this rumor with a grain of salt, as Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce any cast member of the forthcoming X-Men project.

So far, Professor X has only been portrayed on the big screen by Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy. While Laurence Belcher embodied a younger version of Charles Xavier in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, the English actor only made a brief appearance as the iconic mutant leader.

Another casting rumor of late has claimed that Marvel Studios has already recruited Star Wars lead Adam Driver in a villainous role for the film. While the reported update prompted many to suspect whether Driver would be portraying Mr. Sinister in the film, a recent scoop from Nexus Point News’ Apoc Horseman suggests that the two-time Academy Award nominee could take on the role of Professor X’s best-friend-turned-arch-nemesis Magneto.

At the time of writing, the X-Men reboot does not have an official release date.
