Prince Harry subtly joked about not having carried out a particular royal duty since stepping down from royal life in 2020. This happened during his Birmingham Children’s Hospital visit on July 9. He arrived in Britain without Meghan Markle and their kids on Monday amid ongoing security concerns and palace-stay drama.
Prince Harry’s UK hospital stop put his WellChild work back in the spotlight
Prince Harry recently stopped by Birmingham Children’s Hospital to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first WellChild nurse. He has supported the charity organization since 2007 while also financially backing its very first nurse.
According to its website, the charity offers “through a range of practical and emotional support, training, and information programs, WellChild gives children and young people with complex medical needs and their families the best chance to thrive. At home.” The first WellChild nurse position was created in 2006.
During his hospital visit, he shared hearty chats with the patients and listened to their inspiring stories. He also cut a raspberry and white chocolate sponge cake, the exact moment when he slipped into royal mode.
As he was facing towards the cake, about to cut it, he made a joke that referred to how he hadn’t done this royal duty in a long time. “I haven’t cut a cake for a very long time,” he said (via PEOPLE).
According to the latest report, Meghan Markle and kids Archie and Lilibet are also expected to travel to Britain later this week and join Prince Harry. Earlier, their plans were reportedly jeopardized due to security concerns. This is because they weren’t granted tax-funded security.
It was previously known that the royals had only provided them with accommodation and security on that particular property. However, even the accommodation offer was withdrawn at the last moment. The palace staff claimed the reason for canceling the stay was that Prince Harry didn’t respond to the offer by the given deadline.
