HBO’s hit crime series Task is crossing over with another series from the same network. The second season of the Emmy-nominated series is currently in production.
What HBO Max TV show is going to be a crossover with Task Season 2?
In a surprising development, Task season 2 will cross over with Mare of Easttown (via Variety). Julianne Nicholson will be reprising her role as Lori Ross in Task season 2. Both Task and Mare of Easttown were created by Brad Ingelsby and are set in the Philadelphia area. Until now, there was no direct connection between the two shows.
Mare of Easttown debuted on HBO in 2021. Starring Kate Winslet, the 7-episode miniseries received critical acclaim and won three Primetime Emmy Awards, out of its six nominations. Nicholson took home the Outstanding Supporting Actress Award in a Limited Series for her work in the final episode. Earlier this year, Winslet hinted that a potential second season could be in the works. “It wouldn’t actually be this year. I reckon it would end up being 2027 to film it,” Winslet said.

The idea of a crossover between the shows was first floated by Ingelsby last year. The showrunner said in an interview that it wouldn’t surprise him to see Mare Sheehan meeting Tom Brandis.
Task Season 1 was released on HBO last year to positive reviews, earning six nominations at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. The series tells the story of Mark Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis, an FBI agent in charge of a task force investigating robberies in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Season 2 has also added a Bourne Ultimatum star to its cast, along with Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, and Aminah Nieves.
The logline for Task Season 2 reads, “Tom Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.”
Both Task and Mare of Easttown can be streamed on HBO Max.
