Donald Trump’s Latest Poll Has a Personal-Gain Warning Sign

60% of Americans just said something that Donald Trump would not want to hear. The latest Economist/YouGov poll reveals where the president stands on job approval, personal gain accusations, and a surprising Air Force One controversy.

YouGov finds 60% of Americans say Donald Trump is using office for personal gain

A new Economist/YouGov poll finds 60% of Americans believe Donald Trump uses his office for personal gain. Only 27% of respondents say he does not. The survey also places Trump’s net job approval at -25, just above his all-time low of -26.

Trump’s overall approval sits at 35%, while 61% of Americans disapprove of his job performance. His net approval trails Joe Biden’s mark at this same stage of his presidency, which stood at -14. Biden’s lowest net approval across his entire term reached -23.

Trump maintains strong Republican support with a +68 net approval over the past three weeks. Biden held a +60 net approval among Democrats at the same point. Trump’s Republican support still falls below his first-term level of +77 at this stage.

Independents drive much of Trump’s declining approval numbers. Currently, 71% of independents disapprove while only 21% approve, producing a net of -51. At this point in his first term, Trump’s independent approval sat near break-even at -6.

Among Republicans, views on personal gain split along MAGA lines. MAGA supporters overwhelmingly say Trump does not use his office for personal gain at 81%. Non-MAGA Republicans show a closer divide, with 34% saying he does and 43% saying he does not.

The poll also gauged opinions on Qatar’s donated Air Force One jet. Americans slightly prefer the new red, white, and blue design over the old blue-and-white scheme, 36% to 25%. However, only 18% support Trump’s plan to transfer the jet to his presidential library after his term ends. A total of 51% oppose the plan. Meanwhile, 51% of Americans say they strongly disapprove of Trump’s job performance, tying the highest level across both terms.
