Tiffany Haddish opened her first night as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a string of jokes aimed at President Donald Trump. Stepping in while Jimmy Kimmel takes his annual summer break, the comedian devoted much of her opening monologue to Trump’s recent public appearances, commenting on his Fourth of July celebration in Washington, D.C.

Addressing Trump’s America 250 event at the National Mall, Haddish poked fun at the reported turnout with a series of jokes. “I am going to be real honest with you, there was more people at my bat mitzvah,” she said before adding, “I am going to be real honest with you, there was more people at my D.U.I. trial.”

She then referenced the weather delays that affected Trump’s Independence Day speech. “Trump was forced to delay his Fourth of July speech due to the hot and stormy weather. In fact, some MAGA fans had to seek shelter in the African-American history museum. You’re welcome, again,” Haddish joked. She followed that with another punchline, saying, “It was so hot outside, a bunch of white grandpas had to learn about Frederick Douglass. Found out that was they cousin.”

During the same monologue, Haddish turned to reports that Trump personally contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino regarding the suspension of a player before a World Cup match. She quipped that it was unexpected because Trump “doesn’t know anything about soccer,” before adding that it was “the first time he’s ever defended a Black person.”

Haddish is serving as the first guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! during Kimmel’s summer hiatus, with additional guest hosts expected to appear in the coming days.
