President Donald Trump insists he never discusses business with his kids. Yet his own statements reveal a lingering ambiguity about the rules. He has publicly declared he maintains a strict wall between his presidency and his family’s business empire. However, his accompanying remarks suggest a catch.
Donald Trump said his children manage his finances
The president stated that his sons, particularly Eric Trump, now handle the day-to-day operations of the Trump Organization and his investment portfolio. “My kids run it,” Trump said, confirming he has stepped away from management decisions. He added, “I don’t talk to them.”
The assertion comes amid wide scrutiny. Recent financial disclosures revealed that Donald Trump’s family amassed substantial crypto-related income, with numbers reported above $1 billion in the past year.
When pressed on the matter, Trump claimed ignorance of the specific ventures. He has insisted that his money is entrusted to large firms and that he does not speak to Eric about the details. “I don’t even know who they are,” he shared regarding the people investing his capital.
The catch in Trump’s denial lies in his careful qualification. He does not frame the separation as a legal mandate but as a voluntary decision. “I’m allowed to, I think,” he said, before pivoting to the dignity of his office. “But I choose not to. I don’t talk to my kids about, you know, this stuff.”
To bolster his argument, the president offered a historical comparison. He claimed that George Washington, whom he described as one of America’s wealthiest presidents, physically managed his private business from a second desk positioned next to his presidential workspace. “He had two desks in the same room,” Trump stated. “And so, you’re allowed to.” He maintained that he nonetheless prioritizes the nation over profit, saying, “This office is a much higher calling.”
Donald Trump has also expressed sympathy for his kids, acknowledging that the immense power of the presidency taints their business dealings with perceptions of insider information.
