Prime Video has announced the release date for its highly anticipated Muhammad Ali series. The reveal came during a presentation at the Essence Festival of Culture, where the streamer also dropped a first-look teaser trailer.

Prime Video reveals trailer and premiere date for the Muhammad Ali series

The new limited series, titled The Greatest, will be released on Prime Video on Wednesday, November 4. This is the first authorized scripted television project ever made about the life of the boxing icon, with Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, serving as an executive producer.

The project comes from showrunner Ben Watkins, the creator behind the hit series Cross, and is produced in partnership with Michael B. Jordan’s banner, Outlier Society. The series promises an intimate look at the man born Cassius Clay, following his transformation from heavyweight champion of the world to a global humanitarian.

Jaalen Best steps into the lead role as Ali. Audiences may recognize Best from his previous work in All American: Homecoming and Magnum P.I. The series’ teaser trailer showcases Best’s physical transformation, featuring training montages as Muhammad Ali sets his sights on becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.

The cast further includes Dana Gourrier from Kidnap, Amin Joseph of Snowfall fame, and Kai Parham, who appeared in Colin in Black and White. The eight-episode series, rather than a straightforward sports biography, frames itself as an intimate exploration of the pressures and choices that defined Ali’s life.

Moreover, Watkins works as both showrunner and executive producer. Outlier Society’s Elizabeth Raposo also executive produces, along with Corey Salter, Marc Rosen, and Matthew Gross.

Additional executive producers include Aiyana White, Jeff Augustin, and Owen Shiflett. The production roster brings together Authentic Studios, Grace: A Storytelling Company, Roc Nation, and Polygram Entertainment (via Deadline).

The series will come out on November 4 on Prime Video.
