Prince Harry on ‘Disappointing’ Buckingham Palace Invitation Withdrawal

Prince Harry’s U.K. visit has already hit another royal hurdle. The Duke of Sussex was said to be disappointed after an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace during his trip was withdrawn. The development has added another chapter to his already complicated relationship with the British Royal Family.

Prince Harry’s stay at Buckingham Palace had already become a major talking point. King Charles had reportedly offered Harry accommodation at a royal residence during his U.K. visit. However, the Duke had not immediately confirmed whether he would accept the offer. That delay appeared to sit at the center of the latest dispute.

Buckingham Palace reportedly pulled the invitation in what sources described as a last-minute reversal. The situation became more complicated as Harry’s team and palace sources offered differing accounts of what happened.

According to People, Harry’s spokesperson said the Duke formally accepted the accommodation offer after arranging private security. The spokesperson explained that Harry had spent the previous week making those arrangements after RAVEC declined to provide additional police protection for his family.

The spokesperson also described the decision as “disappointing,” particularly because Harry’s team believed the palace was already aware of the timing of his legal judgment against Associated Newspapers Limited.

Palace sources, however, disputed that version of events. As cited by People, royal sources claimed Harry missed the deadline required to prepare for his stay. They also alleged that he initially declined the offer before later attempting to accept it for a shorter visit.

The Buckingham Palace dispute also affected Harry’s family plans. The Duke had hoped to bring Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet to the U.K. However, security concerns are said to have changed those plans. Moreover, Meghan and the children did not accompany him to London.

The Guardian noted that Harry still had several engagements scheduled, including work related to the Invictus Games. Even so, the accommodation dispute has drawn significant attention during his visit.

For now, the Duke of Sussex will continue with his U.K. engagements. However, the withdrawn accommodation offer has become another point of discussion surrounding the visit.
