Donald Trump Put Himself on Mount Rushmore, Then Gave a Speech Beneath It

President Donald Trump shared an edited video showing his face on Mount Rushmore, before giving a speech at the national memorial on Friday. The post came as he kicked off the weekend of celebrations for America’s 250th birthday. The bizarre video showed the monument crafted in gold.

Ahead of his appearance, Donald Trump posted the video on Truth Social showing a gilded version of Mount Rushmore with his likeness chiseled next to Abraham Lincoln. The faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt are also carved into Trump’s version.

In the footage, a Trump voice-over declares, “I will be the greatest president for many, many years to come,” as a 3D graphic of his face set into the mountain-like display rotates. “And we’re gonna have a lot of fun tonight,” the voiceover continues.

Earlier, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers had told ABC News, “There would be no better addition to the iconic Mount Rushmore than the 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump.” The White House hasn’t made any statement about whether actual plans exist to add his likeness to the memorial.

Trump has previously floated the Mount Rushmore idea. He called it a “good idea” on social media in 2020. However, no significant movement toward making it a reality has occurred during his second term. This comes after the president’s name got added to and then removed from the Kennedy Center.

Speaking from the monument, Trump opened with a tribute to the nation’s milestone. “Tomorrow, we mark 250 years of glorious independence and 250 years of majestic American freedom. Nothing like it,” he said before he framed American history in sweeping terms.

The president then shifted to warnings about perceived threats. “In recent years, there’s been an undeniable attempt to change this exceptional character, to beat the American spirit out of us, alienate us from our history,” he told the crowd.

Finally, he ended the speech with mentions of communism, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and upcoming midterms.
