Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus shared messages of love, humanity, and peace from the top of the iconic Empire State Building in New York City. Nikolau shared a brief carousel on Instagram, whilst tagging Beerkus. She wrote in the caption: “Empire State Building, New York.” Beerkus and Nikolau landed on the building’s 1,454-foot-tall antenna (via USA Today). They displayed a banner that read in bold letters: “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
The pair, dressed in black and masked, also got engaged atop the antenna. Nikolau shared pictures from the proposal and even showed off her ring in one of the photos. Unsurprisingly, the post has already garnered around a million likes on Instagram.
The internet seems impressed as they lavished praise on the couple for their actions. One fan commented: “SHE CLIMBED IN A FULL SET!? Gurl.” A second fan wrote: “thank you for setting the bar.” A third fan penned: “No one’s topping that proposal.” A fourth fan quipped: “Not a single chip after 1,454 feet. That’s the real flex.”
A fifth fan chimed in: “this is so iconic.” Finally, a fan penned: “Congrats! You guys did such an amazing thing in the name of peace! Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise!”
The internet was impressed, but the New York Police Department wasn’t reportedly impressed. Nikolau and Beerkus were taken into police custody following their descent around 12:30 p.m. local time. Moreover, the police closed several streets around the building located at 5th Avenue and 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan for safety measures.
The New York Police Department refused to comment on the matter.
